Tip for September: To learn keyboard
shortcuts, visit the Samples page of this site
and click on the "Acrobat Writer" button/picture.
Tip for October: You can print a document
without opening it. To do so, go to
your "My Documents" folder, find the
document you want to print and right-click on it. Choose
"print" from the drop-down menu. Another
way to get to your folders is to go to Windows Explorer (not
to be confused with Internet Explorer) by right clicking
on the "Start" button, then choosing "Explore"
from drop-down menu.
You can also select more than one document to
print at a time while you are in your "My Documents"
folder or Windows Explorer. To do this, hold down the
Control key (Ctrl) on your keyboard and while holding
it down; click on each document you want printed. After documents
are selected, let go of the"Ctrl" key, then right-click
on any of the selected documents/items and choose "print"
from drop-down menu.
Tip for November: You can search
for more than one file type at a time. Refer to
picture on the left. For example, If you want
to find all your pictures, click in the "All or part
of the file name" field and type in the wildcard
symbol (*), followed by a dot and then file extension for
a picture. It would look like this: *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe,
*.gif, *.png. Make sure a comma is between each file
type.
If you remember the name of a file, but don't
remember whether it is a Word, Excel, or a PDF document; you
can put *.pdf, *.doc, *.xls in the "All or part of the
file name:" field and the name of the document in the
"A word or phrase in file" field (second box) to
bring up all the files with the desired name.
This beats searching for each thing separately
and waiting for each search to finish before being able to
begin another search.

Tip for January: Did you know you can get free virus
scans online and some virus scanning programs allow you to
use them for free for a trial period? But, first make sure
you research them to make sure they are legitimate.
I don't want to risk being sued for putting down one of the
big named well-known virus programs that costs over $80.00
more than the highest rated one; so here I'll direct you to
Google where you can look up "best virus scanners"
and find the list of the top three in the magazine "PC
World" which comes up when you search "best virus
scanners". I am using the top rated one myself and it
works great.
